Sun Dance Attire
The moccasins were made with soft white buckskin, and have an intricate beaded flower motif on the upper portion. Moccasins alone were not exclusive to ceremonial use, how ever intricute beaded moccasins were. The blackfoot tribe often wore either tan colored moccasins, or smoke blackened moccasins.
Women: During the Sun Dance, women would dress in elaborately decorated buckskin dresses. They often were designed with finely done beadwork. Bead work was applied to everything from dresses, pants, moccasins, gloves and head gear. Featherwork and quil work was also a common integrated design (Sun Dance , n.d.).
Men: Men during the ceremony would wear traditonal warrior clothes. This was worn specically for the symbolic attack on the tree as well as the dance that took place inside the medicine lodge. The dance outside the medicine included the wearing of elaborate mens dresswear, as well as feathered warbonnets (Sun Dance , n.d.). Men who underwent the blood ritual, wore only a breachcloth.
