Relationship with Neighboring Tribes

The Haida had a good trading relationship with the other coastal tribes in the Pacific Northwest such as the Tlingit and the Tsimshian. At the center of what made this possible was the Haida canoe, with both the perfect material in the cedar and their skilled craftsmanship to back them up. Haida canoes could withstand the waters of the coast and "were highly prized by cheifs of other nations" (CMOH). When they weren't at war these tribes saw lots of value in trading with each other, trade goods included fish, shells, clothes, hats, blankets, and slaves.
